Everyone has their own levels and forms of concentration. Some may find themselves working best when they focus on one task, while others may find it easier to multi–task. Some people enjoy working 20 hours a day until they are finished, but others like to spread out the workload between several weeks. It all depends.
While working on The Banquet website, I had no choice but to concentrate in working and finishing it on time. I had to complete the work. I worked 10-14 hours a day without realizing the time at all. I found myself working at 12 am and finishing at around 4 pm. That worked best for me. It was completed more or less on time.
I worked in this manner for the entire week, during which I hardly saw any of my friends and didn’t go out. When food ran out, I had no choice but to leave my flat; I had dinner with Alan and Sandy at Mayflower. My brain just didn’t seem to function. I couldn’t control myself. I didn’t want to talk to either of them; my brain was full of building the website.
What if I could do several things at once? What if I could focus my concentration and control it? It doesn’t do me any good if I can work at a computer but can’t actually talk to people.
In the end, concentration is certainly a good thing, but learning to adapt it and using it to my benefit is hard; and it’s much harder to motivate myself to concentrate in the first place.
Hard or not, I’ll have to do it for the exams.
